Madhya Pradesh

Madhya Pradesh is a centrally located state of India, with some of India's most notable ancient and medieval sites. The forests, rocky hills and river valleys of Madhya Pradesh are home to monuments from the 3rd century BCE through the modern era. It has some of the oldest Sanskrit and Prakrit inscriptions, along with artwork and India's largest collection of temple ruins from the Gupta Empire era (3rd to 6th century) and others through the 14th-century. The state is also home to the oldest known architectural plan and drawing of a Hindu temple sketched on stone in Asia, some celebrated Buddhist monuments and murals, and both Svetambara and Digambara Jain monuments.

Madhya Pradesh was a hub of economic activities, trade routes and academic centers in ancient India. This vibrance attracted a fusion of ideas, architecture styles and many monuments. Below is a map and list of its historic sites dated between 300 BCE and 16th century CE.
